Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to the fixed version
Description
A NULL pointer dereference issue has been identified in the Linux kernel, specifically in the btrfs module. This issue occurs when attempting a read-only scrub on a btrfs filesystem with the rescue=idatacsums mount option. The problem arises because the scrub functionality does not check the fs state flag NO DATA CSUMS bit, leading to a NULL pointer dereference when calling btrfs search slot(). The estimated number of potentially affected devices is not provided.
Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to the fixed version, update to a version that includes the fix for this issue to prevent the NULL pointer dereference.
As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of the rescue=idatacsums mount option for btrfs filesystems until a patch is available.
