Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.6.74
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability has been identified in the Linux kernel, specifically in the powerpc/pseries/vas component. The issue arises when the mapping VMA address is saved in the VAS window struct during paste address mapping, but this address is not updated when the window is closed or munmap() is called, leading to invalid access during migration. The KASAN report indicates a slab-use-after-free error in the reconfig close windows function.
Recommendations
To resolve this issue, update the Linux kernel to version 6.6.74 or later. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the
reconfig close windows() function until a patch is available. Restrict access to the vas vm ops struct to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the vm area struct cache until the issue is resolved.Exploit
