Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue is related to the stack depot in the Linux kernel, which filters out uninteresting parts of stack traces to prevent exhaustion of the stack depot. The problem arises because the .irqentry.text section on s390 is empty, preventing stack depot filtering and de-duplication, and potentially resulting in warnings like "Stack depot reached limit capacity" with PREEMPT and KASAN enabled. The fix involves moving IO/EXT interrupt handlers into the .irqentry.text section and updating the kprobes blacklist. This issue affects asynchronous interrupts but not program checks, where preserving context is important. The estimated number of potentially affected devices worldwide is not available. There is no information about real-world incidents where this issue was exploited.
Recommendations
