Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description:
A flaw exists in the Linux kernel's btrfs subsystem related to subpage handling and writeback tagging. Specifically, the
btrfs subpage set writeback() function prematurely clears the PAGECACHE TAG TOWRITE tag for folios during writeback operations, potentially breaking ordering guarantees required for operations like btrfs wait ordered extents(). This can lead to data corruption or assertion failures, particularly in zoned storage setups or when handling compressed writes. The issue arises from a race condition where a folio might be tagged for writeback by one process, but the tag is cleared by another process before the first process can collect and wait for the folio to be written.Recommendations:
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
