CVE-2023-53167

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description The Linux kernel contains a flaw in the tracing err log open() function. If a file is opened with write permissions only, file->private data remains null. Subsequently, using lseek on this file causes a null pointer dereference within seq lseek when attempting to lock a mutex, leading to a kernel panic. The tracefs node affected is /sys/kernel/tracing/error log. This issue has limited security impact as writing to this node requires root privileges.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
