CVE-2023-53187

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description A use-after-free vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel's Btrfs file system related to block group management. Specifically, if a task creates a new block group that becomes unused before its creation is finalized, attempting to delete the block group can lead to a use-after-free condition. This occurs because the block group is moved between lists without proper reference counting, potentially resulting in a double decrement of the reference count and an assertion failure, as observed during testing with generic/297 from fstests.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
