CVE-2023-53291

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 6.3.0-rc1-rcu+
Description A flaw exists in the Linux kernel related to the rcu/rcuscale functionality. Specifically, the kfree scale thread threads continue to run after the rcuscale module is unloaded, leading to a potential system crash. This issue is triggered when running the 'kfree rcu test' test case. The root cause is the failure to properly clean up these threads during module removal, resulting in a page fault when attempting to access memory.
Recommendations Update to a version of the Linux kernel later than 6.3.0-rc1-rcu+.
