Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The Linux kernel contains an issue in the io uring/kbuf subsystem where buffer lengths are not consistently read. This is due to the use of potentially unstable reads of user-space mapped buffers. The issue is addressed by using
READ ONCE() to ensure a stable read of the buffer length, preventing potential issues if the buffer changes during processing. Additionally, the commit loop now stops if a zero-sized buffer is encountered, preventing further progress.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
