CVE-2022-50370

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description A flaw exists in the Linux kernel's i2c designware driver related to the handling of device interrupts. A regression was introduced by commit c7b79a752871, causing system crashes (NULL pointer dereference in i2c dw xfer msg()) on certain Gigabyte motherboards with Intel Alder Lake-S processors when resuming from S3 sleep state. The issue occurs when an interrupt arrives after PCI device resume, indicating a completed I2C transaction while the driver is not expecting one. The firmware may be using the controller to communicate with an on-board I2C device during resume without disabling it before handing control to the operating system. The driver is not prepared to handle interrupts when it is not in an active state, potentially leading to a crash.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
