CVE-2023-53446

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description A use-after-free issue was identified in the PCI/ASPM subsystem of the Linux kernel. Specifically, the vulnerability occurs when removing a PCI function from a multi-function device while ASPM (Active State Power Management) is enabled. The pcie link state->downstream pointer, which points to the PCI device of function 0, is retained after function 0 is removed. Subsequent ASPM policy changes then dereference this dangling pointer, leading to a use-after-free condition. The PCIe specification recommends maintaining consistent ASPM Control values across all functions of a multi-function device.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
