Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
tgstation-server versions prior to 6.12.3
Description
The issue concerns improper role authorization in tgstation-server, a production-scale tool for BYOND server management. Prior to version 6.12.3, roles used to authorize API methods were incorrectly combined with OR instead of AND with the role used to determine if a user was enabled. This allows enabled users access to most, but not all, authorized actions regardless of their permissions. Notably, the WriteUsers right is unaffected, so users may not use this bug to permanently elevate their account permissions.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 6.12.3, update to tgstation-server-v6.12.3 to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to authorized actions for enabled users until the update is applied.
