CVE-2025-40274

CVSS v2.0

4.4

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:M/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description The Linux kernel contains a flaw within the KVM subsystem related to memory management. Specifically, the issue arises when unbinding a memslot from a guest memfd instance while the associated file is being released. This can lead to a use-after-free condition, potentially resulting in a system crash. The problem occurs because the bindings are not removed even when the guest memfd file is dying, and freeing the memslot before the file is fully released can cause a write to freed memory. The issue was detected by syzbot+KASAN.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
