Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The Linux kernel contains a use-after-free issue within the SMB client, specifically in the
smb2 close cached fid() function. The find or create cached dir() function could potentially acquire a new reference after the reference count had already reached zero, but before the cfid list lock was acquired. This condition could lead to a use-after-free scenario. The issue is addressed by switching to kref put lock(), ensuring that the cfid release() function is called while holding the cfid list lock, thereby closing the timing gap.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
