Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The Linux kernel contains a flaw related to crashkernel resource management. Specifically, when the crashkernel reservation is reduced below the low crashkernel reservation, it can lead to invalid crashkernel resource objects and potentially a kernel crash. This occurs because the
crash shrink memory() function within the kernel/crash core.c file incorrectly updates the crashkernel resource object. The issue manifests when shrinking the crashkernel size via the /sys/kernel/kexec crash size interface. The problem is triggered when shrinking the crashkernel memory, leading to a kernel NULL pointer dereference and subsequent crash.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
