Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
NSF Unidata NetCDF-C (affected versions not specified)
Description
A flaw exists in the parsing of time units within NSF Unidata NetCDF-C, leading to a stack-based buffer overflow. This allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on affected systems. Exploitation requires user interaction, such as visiting a malicious page or opening a malicious file. The issue stems from insufficient validation of user-supplied data length before copying it into a fixed-size stack buffer. An attacker can exploit this to execute code with the privileges of the current user.
