Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
NSF Unidata NetCDF-C (affected versions not specified)
Description
A flaw exists in the parsing of dimension names within NSF Unidata NetCDF-C, leading to a heap-based buffer overflow. This allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected systems. User interaction is required, specifically the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The issue stems from insufficient validation of the length of user-supplied data before copying it into a fixed-length heap-based buffer. An attacker can exploit this to execute code with the privileges of the current user.
