No severity ratings or metrics are available. When they are, we'll update the corresponding info on the page.
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The Linux kernel contains a flaw within the f2fs filesystem. When f2fs attempts to checkpoint during foreground garbage collection (gc) in Log-structured filesystem (LFS) mode, a system crash can occur due to insufficient free space. This happens if the amount of dirty node and dentry pages generated by data migration exceeds the available free space. The issue is triggered by creating a 20GiB file on a 20GiB block device formatted with LFS mode, followed by 4k random writes across the file's entire range. The root cause is a missing check for sufficient free sections before initiating the checkpoint process during garbage collection.
Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
