CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions FontForge (affected versions not specified)
Description A flaw exists in FontForge’s handling of BMP file pixel parsing, potentially allowing a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code. Exploitation requires user interaction, such as visiting a malicious page or opening a malicious file. The issue stems from insufficient validation of user-supplied data length before copying it into a heap-based buffer, leading to a potential buffer overflow. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute code with the privileges of the current user.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
