Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the Linux kernel related to an inode leak within the
ext4 xattr inode create() function when handling errors during extended attribute operations. Specifically, if ext4 mark inode dirty() fails, the inode's link count is not properly decremented, leading to an inode leak. This can manifest as unattached inodes reported by filesystem checks (fsck.ext4). The issue occurs when performing setxattr with fault injection.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
