Description
A flaw exists in the Linux kernel’s serial component, specifically within the 8250 driver. Unloading a hardware-specific 8250 driver can lead to a kernel error, specifically an “Unable to handle kernel paging request” error occurring approximately ten seconds after the driver is unloaded. This issue arises from an incomplete fix in a previous commit and occurs when the
port->pm function is not properly cleared during driver unloading, causing serial8250 pm() to incorrectly call port->pm() instead of serial8250 do pm(). The uart change pm() function and uart hangup() are involved in the sequence leading to the error.Recommendations
