Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A flaw exists in the Linux kernel's bcache subsystem related to the management of the
btree cache wait list. Specifically, the issue arises when multiple threads attempt to cannibalize cached btree nodes concurrently. The mca cannibalize() function, used for this purpose, can lead to list corruption if finish wait() is not called before freeing the memory associated with operations in the btree cache wait list. This can result in a kernel crash. The crash occurs due to damage to the list structure, specifically when adding new elements. The functions prepare to wait(), bch btree keys free(), mca cannibalize lock(), mca alloc(), bch btree node get(), bch btree check thread(), finish wait(), bch btree check recurse(), and kthread() are involved in the call trace leading to the crash.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
