CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description A NULL pointer dereference issue in the Linux kernel has been identified. The problem occurs in the ata host alloc pinfo() function when the ppi parameter points to an array starting with a NULL pointer, potentially causing a kernel oops. The issue is resolved by initializing the pi local variable to &ata dummy port info. This issue was discovered by the Linux Verification Center using the SVACE static analysis tool.
Recommendations For the affected Linux kernel versions, initialize the pi local variable to &ata dummy port info in the ata host alloc pinfo() function to prevent the NULL pointer dereference issue. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
