Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.11.0-rc4
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved, specifically in the rtl8150 driver. The issue arises from utilizing a wrong USB endpoint type during URB submitting stage, triggering a warning. To mitigate this, simple endpoint checking has been enabled. The vulnerability was reported by Syzkaller.
Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.11.0-rc4, update to a version that includes the fix for this issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the
rtl8150 open() function until a patch is available. Restrict access to the vulnerable rtl8150 driver to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the usb submit urb() function in the affected API endpoint until the issue is resolved.Exploit
