Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel has been resolved by converting workqueues to unbound. This change allows work items to be executed on any CPU in the same node, avoiding contention with other processes that might dominate CPU time. In a scenario where a misconfigured process was consuming most of the time from CPU0, the IDPF workqueues suffered large completion delays, causing performance degradation, timeouts, and eventual system crash. A manual test was conducted to gauge the performance improvement, which showed that without the patch, delays between workqueue events could be as high as 30ms, while with the patch, the maximum delay was reduced to 6us.
Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
