CVE-2025-68788
CVSS v2.0
4.6
Medium
| Vector | AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The Linux kernel had an issue where inotify and fanotify allowed users without read access to a file to subscribe to events on its children when they had access to the parent directory. This could allow users to observe file access or modification via atime/mtime changes, but this behavior did not apply to special files. The fix prevents the generation of ACCESS/MODIFY events to parent watchers on read/write of special files, aligning fsnotify events with stat behavior and closing potential side-channels for information exfiltration.
Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
