Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Grassroots DICOM version 3.2.2
Description A memory leak exists in Grassroots DICOM (GDCM), a C++ library used for handling medical images. This issue can be triggered by processing malformed DICOM files containing non-standard Variable Representation (VR) types. Exploitation can lead to excessive memory allocation, potentially causing a denial-of-service (DoS) condition. The maintainers of GDCM have not yet responded to reports of this issue, and no patch is currently available. The vulnerability allows remote attackers to trigger a DoS by sending specially crafted files.
Recommendations Grassroots DICOM version 3.2.2: Isolate the installation from the internet and place control networks behind firewalls. Employ Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for remote access. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
