Description
A flaw exists in Foreman that allows a remote attacker to exploit a command injection vulnerability within the WebSocket proxy implementation. This issue stems from the system utilizing unsanitized hostname values received from compute resource providers when constructing shell commands. An attacker can achieve remote code execution on the Foreman server by operating a malicious compute resource server and triggering access to VM VNC console functionality by a user. This could potentially compromise sensitive credentials and the entire managed infrastructure. The compute resource providers include VMware vSphere and Libvirt.
Recommendations
Update Foreman to version 3.16.3 or later.
Update Foreman to version 3.17.2 or later.
