Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Tabby versions prior to 1.0.233
Description
Tabby automatically confirms ZMODEM protocol detection on all terminal session output without user interaction. The
ZModemMiddleware in tabby-terminal processes session output via Zmodem.Sentry; upon detecting a ZMODEM ZRQINIT header, it calls detection.confirm() and writes a fixed ZRINIT response back into the active PTY as input. Once the process that triggered the detection exits, the shell consumes these injected bytes as a command line. In the fish shell, the ** prefix triggers recursive glob expansion, allowing the execution of an attacker-placed executable via a relative pathname. In bash and zsh, this can be combined with xterm.js terminal color-query feedback (OSC 10) to inject a command word containing a slash, bypassing PATH resolution. An attacker can achieve remote code execution by providing a crafted file that the user views using a command like cat.Recommendations
Update Tabby to version 1.0.233.
