phpMyFAQ versions prior to 4.1.2
Description
An improper restriction of excessive authentication attempts exists in the "/admin/check" endpoint. This endpoint accepts arbitrary
user-id parameters without session binding or rate limiting. Unauthenticated attackers can bypass two-factor authentication and gain full administrative access by submitting POST requests with sequential token values to brute-force a user's six-digit TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password, a temporary code generated by an app) code.Recommendations
Update to version 4.1.2 or later.
Restrict access to the "/admin/check" endpoint to minimize the risk of exploitation.
