Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
X.Org X server (affected versions not specified)
Xwayland (affected versions not specified)
Description
A stack-based buffer overflow exists in the X.Org X server and Xwayland. The function
XkbSetMapChecks() declares a fixed-size stack buffer mapWidths[256] indexed by key type index. The helper function CheckKeyTypes() writes to this buffer at an offset controlled by the client, which can lead to a stack buffer overflow. This may result in a server crash or privilege escalation if the X server is running as root.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
