Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) where a warning is incorrectly triggered when memory is marked dirty without a running or loaded virtual CPU (vCPU) during the destruction of a virtual machine (VM). This occurs specifically for x86 SEV-ES guests when KVM maintains a writable mapping of a guest page across an exit to userspace, but userspace fails to call
KVM RUN before the vCPU is destroyed. The system incorrectly triggers a warning because it fails to check if the VM is still alive via its refcount. This issue prevents the effective resolution of a memory leak for SEV-ES guests.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
