Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A flaw exists in the Linux kernel related to shared memory (shmem) handling during file truncation. Specifically, an infinite loop can occur when truncating a large swap entry due to a race condition. This happens when the
index points to the middle of a large swap entry, and the entry doesn't cross the end border. The shmem free swap() function fails and returns 0, leading to a retry with the same index, resulting in an infinite loop. The issue arises from an incorrect check within the shmem free swap() function and a missing condition in the retry logic.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
