At Google I/O, the company presented its plans for the development of the Google ecosystem:
🔵enhanced capabilities for AI-assisted app development were introduced. Android CLI now allows developers to integrate any AI agents to assist with app development, Google Antigravity AI agent has been updated to version 2.0, and Google AI Studio now enables app development using prompts. To evaluate the effectiveness of LLMs in Android app development tasks, a new benchmark Android Bench was launched;
🔵a new optimization tool R8 Configuration Analyzer was introduced. Its use is expected to help reduce app size and memory consumption, while Android Performance Analyzer, with integrated AI agents, will help identify other issues.
🔵Agent Development Kit (ADK) was announced. It enables the creation of autonomous AI agents capable of running directly on a user's device. The Gemma 4 model was previously introduced to support this initiative; 🔵a new version of the Gemini 3.5 Flash model was unveiled, it is now available via Google Search (AI Mode), the Gemini API, and Gemini Enterprise. The Gemini Spark AI agent was also introduced; 🔵applications are now being accepted for the Android XR Developer Catalyst program. This program will provide resources for developing mixed-reality applications for headsets—such as Project Aura by XREAL. Google is primarily interested in innovative projects within the fields of media, gaming, healthcare, and productivity enhancement; 🔵the release of Android 17 is approaching, the fourth beta of which was released on April 16, as well as Wear OS 7.
