Inspircd · Inspircd · CVE-2015-8702
**Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions**
InspIRCd versions prior to 2.0.19
**Description**
The issue allows remote DNS servers to cause a denial of service, also known as a netsplit, by sending an invalid character in a PTR response. This can be triggered by a specific character, such as a whitespace character, in a hostname.
**Recommendations**
For versions prior to 2.0.19, update to version 2.0.19 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting DNS responses to prevent invalid characters from causing a denial of service.
